Is it recorded?

During our Math class, one of my students asked me, "Mr. Lagarde, is this going to be recorded?". I asked them why does it matter so much? It occurred to me that many students, not only the ones that I am teaching, have a mindset that school is about grades and that whatever they do they do it to have good grades. I have nothing against good grades. The problem is that many of our students study f...or grades but miss the point that school is about learning. It is about knowing more about yourself. It is about developing your potential , it is about learning how to dream not only for ones self but for others and it is about teaching them to become HUMAN.

This became a point of reflection for me as a teacher. Are we missing the point of education? Are we teaching them to learn because if they don't their grades are going to suffer or are we teaching them to learn for the sake of learning?
